Overall - March 2007:
The first stop in our "Hartzel Road Run" of 2007 was Carley’s - a place we’ve driven past many times but never given a second thought. We didn’t have high expectations of finding decent wings anywhere during our run through Meritton, and boy we were pleasantly suprised to discover we were wrong!
Big, hot saucy wings, cooked just right, with a crispy skin and moist chicken throughout. The sauce was uniquely flavoured with an appropriate afterburn and applied just right, so the wings were not too dry and not too sloppy. At about 5 bucks a pound, they were a real deal too!
For beer, not much of interest on tap so we settled for a couple pitchers of Alexander Keiths. Unfortunately there wasn’t much in the way of premium beers at any of the spots visited tonight - Hey whaddya want? It’s Meritton!
Overall we were very impressed with Carley’s. With some dark beer on tap we could definately see them reach the 90 percentile range. Will have to return in the future and see how they rank for consistency, but otherwise a great way to start the night. |
