Overall - March 2022:
It has been a long time since we have done a re-review for Bugsy’s and some might wonder why? We have certainly been here countless times more than our last review would suggest. Well, for starters, there’s nothing necessary to be said. As one of the longest running bars in St. Catharines, probably second only to Cat’s Caboose, it has been in regular BHON rotation since our start in 1996.
Over the past 2 years, the covid pandemic took a beating on our collective psyche’s not to mention those in the food and beverage industry. When indoor dining returned this year, after yet another long lockdown, Bugsy’s was one of our first stops.
Wings - ordered our usual suicide, saucy and out came the spec wings. Big, fat, juicy, crispy on the outside and perfectly coated with textbook Buffalo wing sauce. Lots of places offer fancier wing flavours, and artsier presentation, but Bugsy’s excels at delivering proper Buffalo Hot wings....consistently.....for decades now.
Also nice to see a lot of familiar faces behind the bar and out on the floor.
As we tipped our Guinness pints while huddled around our little tables at the front of the bar, we all agreed it was great to be back...to a place that felt like home!
Overall - July 2008:
Really....what else can we say about Bugsy’s that hasn’t already been said? The place is pretty much legendary when it comes to BHON, so it made sense to go back there to finish off the BHON Port Dalhousie Pub Crawl of 2008. A long walk from Port, but always worth it. We finished off the night with a couple rounds of Guinness and a batch of Bugsy’s spec wings.
Admittedly, many places come close and some even surpass them, but with so many years of consistency, Bugsy’s sets the bar that everyone else is measured by.
Overall - June 2007:
Port Dalhousie Pub Crawl 2007 Report: After a quick pitstop at the urine bush, the pilgrimage to the holy land began - An epic 20 minute walk to Bugsy’s where we were not only enjoyed some more fine Guinness, but we found the Holy Grail with some of the best wings in our 11 year history! Thank you Bugsy’s for saving the night and a great send-off for Patrick before he returns to that foreign French province...
Overall - June 2003:
As always, Bugsy’s came through with their consistency. A couple pints of Guiness started off the evening, followed up with the usual Rickard’s Red and their big, tasty wings.
Also, Kudos to Bugsy’s for going along with the new regional smoking regulations. Though half of the BHON crowd are smokers, it is nice to savor the taste of your beer and wings without the haze of cigaratte smoke for a change.
Overall - Aug 2002:
Well, we returned to Bugsy’s once again and this time it did not dissappoint! Huge wings, spiced just right and bang-on the money. Looks like they’ve redeemed themselves since our last outing! One point worth noting though...it seems our 8:00pm arrival time co-incides with the tail-end of the dinnertime crowd, so walking in and expecting a table for 12 is pretty unrealistic. We do give them points for making space for us in the back room with all the rowdies however!
Overall - Aug 2001:
WTF? - Okay, we always consider Bugsys one of our favourite default spots. The wings have been consistently good for the last 20 years, but this time it seems that Sizzlin’ Charlies must have sold them their remaining stock before going out of business! A few of those puny ones snuck into our order!
And...though it was packed, would it have hurt our waitress to crack a smile? Jesus...we like abuse, but "Here’s your wings... Fuck Off" seemed to be her attitude...Only the TAVAR factor kept the score outta the dumper!
A ten point drop for that alone...lets hope its not an indication of things to come!

Still a great spot. A loud, drunken annoying group with cell phones was kind of irritating though. Wait a minute, that was us!
