Overall - Jan 2004:
Well, it had been awhile since our last visit to the REX mostly due to the fact that after Derek moved out of Welland, we had no reason to ever go there again! Now with Johnny Z living in Port Colborne, we figured we’d throw him a bone and go back to the REX once again.
Not much has changed. The REX remains a Welland landmark with their classic pizza and tasty wings. We were kinda suprised to see people smoking (their off-track betting status exempts them from the smoking bylaw) so it took some getting used to. They actually cleaned the place up a bit...a fresh coat of paint and some new panelling. But not to worry, the REX still has the dumpy old charm it always had!

A pleasant surprise! We dined in the Crown room, I fully expected Queen Elizabeth to come promenading out of the Off-track betting area, but alas, she wasn’t there Thursday night. The place is much bigger on the inside, how the hell do they do it? There was another dining area yet unexplored! The wings were decent, good size, they had a real bite to them. Rickards Red on tap, another plus. Good Pizza still! When I was young, my father used to pick up a pizza and drive like a madman to get that pizza home hot. But then again, he always drove like a madman. We were there fairly late, a good sign, but we all cleared out before 1 O’cock. Plenty of parking, if you ride a bicycle. It seems Wellanders dont drive cars, they all ride bikes! |
