Overall - Dec 2021:
Bargain alert!!! - Mick’s recently started a Throwback Thursday bar special with $5 domestics and 60 cent wings after 7:00pm on thursdays. Count us in! The only downside is it applies to the bar area only and we were crammed in pretty tight, especially when the rest of the place was half empty. The bar area does not have room for a large group like ours, so we ended up split up between two tables. It kinda goes against the whole ’social distancing’ thing as well, which wouldn’t have been a concern in the pre-covid era.
Nonetheless, we had a good time, and the special pricing made it an unusually inexpensive night all around.
Overall - April 2019:
Well this probably takes the record for the longest time lapse between any two subsequent BHON reviews! Nineteen years since our last review, we figured it was time for an update.
Mick and Angelo’s has stood at the corner of Lundy’s Lane and Montrose Road for over 2 decades now. Recently, they underwent a change of ownership and a major renovation. Would they still be a BHON contender? We went back to find out.
First impressions, the place certainly got the HGTV makeover treatment. Lots of barnboard, subway tile and edison-style pendant lights everywhere. Gone are all the kitschy Italian decorations and colours of the 1990’s for a more upscale and modern look.
The wings were both large and tasty, available in several styles and both breaded and non-breaded. The breaded wings had a very light dusting that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, while the traditional non-breaded buffalo-style were right on the money. No Guinness on tap, but we enjoyed a few pitchers of Murphy’s Stout which was a decent substitute.
Prices at Mick and Angelo’s are a bit on the high-side, but for what it’s worth they always have been. It’s a high-visibility and high-traffic location in a tourist town, so that’s not unexpected. They certainly offer a better value than anything you will find in the heart of the Clifton-Hill or Fallsview areas.
We’ll have to return and take advantage of the patio sometime in the near future.
Overall - Jun 2000:
What a hostess with the mostest! Tamra helped to make yet another memorable evening, assisting us in yet another practical joke played on Derek. Boy, did he have his hopes thrown on the floor, stomped on, then urinated on! The BBWs (Big Beautiful Wings) were abundant, Rickards Red was flowing, and so were the cheers.
