Overall - Feb 2024:
Well it’s been a bit but we finally made it back to the Eager Beaver. And have to say it was very enjoyable evening.
The bar wasn’t too busy, the music wasn’t too loud and we could sit where we wanted. The server was very friendly and he was quick in getting us our Guinness.
So, on to the wings. We went with the Jumbo special, at $9.00 a pound you would be hard pressed to beat that price. They had a huge selection of wing flavours, but we stuck with the traditional Buffalo and their Oh Shit sauce. Both very proper with the Oh Shit sauce being just a bit hotter but not insane. Wings were nice, big and meaty.
We talked with Dan, the server, and he was telling us about the plans for the patio to be covered and heated so that they can use the space all year round. And then the chef Paul came out to talk with us. He talked about how he makes the hot sauces and even brought out a sampling of all of the different peppers that he uses when creating them. Mr. Jones volunteered to bring Paul some of his home grown stash which Paul said he would gladly accept and turn into a sauce for us.
This all made for a great night and the bump in the score. The Eager Beaver definitely made an impression and we will add it to the rotation as one of the new favorite spots for us to go to. Look for us going back soon!
Overall - May 2019:
Formerly the Drummond Inn, the Eager Beaver Sports Bar & Eatery is our first new entry to the BHON club for 2019.
Looking at their menu, the first thing we saw in bold letters was, ’NIAGARA’S BEST WINGS’. Well that certainly sounded like a challenge! According to the menu, they offered over a dozen different wing sauces and styles. Our server informed us they had a 5 x 5 sampler special where you could pick any five flavours to make up an order of 25 wings. We opted to try their classic Buffalo hot along with their ’Oh Shit’ sauces. From the dry rubbed menu, we picked the Montreal Steak Spiced wings, then from the specialty list we picked the Blue Buffalo and Sriracha flavours.
The wings were decent, thought the overall consensus was to stick with the traditional for best results. The kitchen staff whipped up a second batch with a mixture of their regular hot and Oh Shit sauces which we all agreed to be the winner.
We also enjoyed a pizza and many rounds of Guinness to complete the evening with a very reasonable bill.
Overall - nice little place in the Falls for the locals with good food and prices. We’ll be back!
