Overall - Feb 2024:
So another return visit to Silks and another great night! Once again, we enjoyed a mix of different wings including the standard Buffalo hot, Kitchen Sink, Joel’s hot and suicide. All were decent sized and consistent with our previous experiences...enough so that they were deserving of a bump in score into the 90 percentile range. The suicide were a new experience and were some of the hottest wings we have experienced in our 28 years. Props to chef Jamie for this particular batch of Fuck’em up wings....I am sure we will be paying for that tomorrow! Sorry about your asshole....
We followed up with a couple more pounds of the kitchen sink wings, with a little extra hot mixed in and all agreed they were some of the tastiest wings we’ve had in awhile.
Also props to our server Tami (with an I - hope we spelled that right?) for keeping our pints full of Oast Barnraiser all night.
We’ll be back!
Overall - May 2022:
Almost a carbon copy of our previous visit. Once again we enjoyed a few pounds of the regular Buffalo hot, Joel’s Hot and the Kitchen Sink wings, along with a few jugs of Oast House Barn Raiser and Silversmith’s Black Lager while we watched the seniors navigate the tight parking lot out front. Insurance is a must! - LOL
Also, we somehow ended up with $80 carryover, which rarely every happens any more. So Silks was a great value for what we had. Definitely worth the drive to Virgil.

Now here’s a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. Our original impression of Silks was that it would be a great place for your grandparents to go for brunch after church on sunday, but not necessarily a place where we could find great wings and beer! Apparently we were wrong!
When Chris first suggested a BHON evening at Silks we snickered but figured it would be worth a shot and turns out we’re glad we did.
No Guinness, but they had both Silversmith’s and Oast House brews on tap - no coincidence since both breweries are a stone’s throw away down Hwy 55. Kudos for supporting your local craft brewers!
The wings were another surprise - good size, perfectly prepared and served with a selection of different sauces. We enjoyed some of the ’Joel’s Hot’ along with a few pounds of ’Kitchen Sink’ and both were excellent. The kitchen sink were unique and tasty, especially when ordered hotter than standard. As a bonus, the $8 per pound thursday night special, combined with a large carryover made this a super inexpensive wing night for us as a group.
Overall, we’ll definitely be back. |
