Overall - Feb 2017:
It was a rather cold and dreary February evening, perhaps too cold and too dreary for mere mortals to venture out, but that didn’t detract us from our latest BHON outing. The aptly named ’Riverside Tavern’ is located on the riverside (Duh?) in the quaint village of Chippawa, and appears to have a great view of the Welland River from the covered patio along Bridgewater Street. According to local lore, the Riverside is located in a historical building that once served as a hotel and has stood in this location for close to 200 years.
We had a few pitchers of HopCity’s 8th Sin Black Lager and several pounds of wings including hot, damn hot and Montreal chicken spiced. The hot were fairly run of the mill, while the damn hot had a distinct indian-inspired spice to them which we all agreed were the best of the night. Spicy and hot, just like we like em! The Montreal wings were a mixed bag - similar to cajun wings but with Montreal spice instead. Half enjoyed them while half did not. Also noteworthy that these wings were breaded, but can be ordered plain on request. We usually don’t care for breaded wings, as they have that slimy KFC texture that tastes all greasy when they cool off. These were no exception, so note taken.
Overall we liked it and look forward to returning when the weather is better so we can take advantage of the patio view! |
