Overall - August 2016:
Another summer marks another road trip for BHON Member, Mike G - and an opportunity to try out some more west coast pubs and bars. It’s no surprise that Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in Canada to live, dine and play. So when you come across a pub that serves $14 pitchers and $8 wings, you have to give it a try!
Located in the Vancouver suburb of Kitsilano, we stumbled upon Gargoyle’s Pub & Grill after we couldn’t get into several other area bars that were filled to capacity. (The close proximity to UBC makes Kitsilano’s bars a popular destination for the university crowd most weeknights). Like most BC bars, micro-brew on tap is the standard here, and the $14 wednesday pitcher special made it a great deal. It was also one of the only bars not blaring crappy hip-hop & dance music, which was most appreciated!
The wings were suprisingly good. Decent sized, juicy and crispy on the outside with a light breading and tasty sauce that you rarely find at a place 4000km away from Buffalo. At $8 a pound, who could complain?
Our only complaint about the place? The service was slow - it was a busy night and with only 1 girl doing double-duty bartending and serving, it took awhile to get our drinks and food. But we took the time to chat, enjoy the warm summer breeze blowing in from the patio and sip our frosty pints (after they finally arrived). Oh...and watch out for parking. Kit’s parking enforcement works all night long, which we discovered when we were greeted with a nice parking ticket when we went to leave. (Boo!)
