Overall - Nov 2017:
Not much new to report since our visit a year ago. The place was packed, which was a good sign. Icy-cold pitchers of rickards red took care of our thirst issues, while the standard buffalo hot wings were bang-on the money. We also ordered a pound of Inferno wings and I think some of us are still suffering the after-effects days later. This time they were hot....as in chemical burn hot! They weren’t our favourite the first time around, so I think we’ll stick to the standard the next time around!
All in all, Teddy’s delivered exactly what was expected and is still worthy of a revisit in the future.
Overall - Sept 2016:
Our first stop in the long awaited Grimsby Pub Crawl of 2016 brought us to this long-standing landmark. Family run since 1964, Teddy’s Sports Bar claims to be home to the ’Best Wings in Town’ and has long been a popular spot with the locals.
We arrived bang on 8:00pm and the place was packed, which is a good sign. A fairly standard assortment of domestic beers on tap, the most exotic of which was Creemore Springs Lager, which we enjoyed a few pitchers of. No Guinness, but that was expected.
The Wings:
Average sized and perhaps a bit overcooked, but the kitchen was pumping these out at record speeds to serve the hungry masses, so we can forgive them a bit for the presentation. They were certainly a decent value for the 69 cent price.
First Round - Inferno:
A crazy combination of spices, we tasted Jerk spice, a bit of Cajun, a bit of habernero, chipotle and basically everything but the kitchen sink thrown into this one. Different, but not exactly our favourite and not nearly as hot as the name would suggest.
Second Round - Teddy Style Hot:
Another unique sauce we weren’t expecting, with a sticky sweet syrupy flavour. Sort of a Thai-Chili hot mixed with maple syrup. Flavourful but too sweet for our tastes.
Third Round - Standard Hot:
Ahhh.....like goldilocks and the three bears, this one was just right. Standard textbook Frank’s Hot Sauce Buffalo-style wings.
Overall - a decent spot, popular with the locals and worth checking out if you are looking for standard sports-bar fare. If they’ve lasted as long as they have, they must be doing something right!
And thus, the first stop in Grimsby Pub Crawl 2016 was deemed a success! Off to the next contender..... |
