Overall - Sometime During Covid - RIP
Went tits up sometime during the pandemic. Couldn’t have been that good since we never noticed it was closed.
Overall - March 2016:
We’re not usually fans of chain restaurants but anytime a new spot opens up in the area we are game to check it out. St. Louis Wings Bar and Grill recently opened a new spot in St. Catharines, across the street from the hospital so we figured it was worth a visit. Would it be worthy? Let’s find out....
The Good:
Guinness on tap at about $7 a pint, which is not unreasonable. About average for the area and typical for most franchise sports bars. The TAVAR was off the scale as well, which helped boost the score. Call us neanderthals, but putting attractive young women in short miniskirts and low cut tank tops is a guaranteed revenue generator no matter what all the politically correct feminists say. We certainly wouldn’t complain.
The wings were average sized, with a very unique tasting sauce. We tried both the hot and the suicide which were equally tasty with an excellent spice level that had a smoky mesquite flavour. The taste was complex and certainly far from the traditional Frank’s Hot Sauce base that we are accustomed to.
The place wasn’t overly large or loud, with a decent sized bar area having both high-top and standard seating areas. Plenty of huge TV screens to complete the sports-bar look, and we’re pleased to report neither crappy music nor blaring TV’s made it easy to carry on a conversation without having to holler at each other all night.
The Bad:
A fairly generic sports bar atmosphere inside was neither cozy nor inspiring. But the biggest complaint was the price of the wings. TWENTY-FOUR DOLLARS for TWO POUNDS of wings is ridiculous, making these the most expensive wings we’ve had anywhere in the last 20 years! That alone was enough to push the score down below the 70% level and was really our only complaint for an otherwise decent night.
Overall, it was above average for a chain restaurant, and there were some things we really wanted to like about the place. The expensive wings alone really brought the score down. |
