RIP - 2019:
Another place that started out promising and went downhill. On our most recent visit half the beer selection was unavailable, as were half the menu items.
Overall - October 2015:
Whenever a new bar opens with a focus on craft beer, BHON takes notice! For decades, this location was the home of the Happy Wanderer German Restaurant, which had been closed for several years. A unique building, it’s nice to see a new owner paying homage to its past rather than tearing it down.
The new Bull Market boasts 35 taps serving only craft beers, 3 unique dining rooms and a large outdoor patio. We sat in the Beer Hall, a small intimate setting with booths and a separate bar for beer tastings. There’s also a middle dining room and a sports bar up front depending on what suits your mood. We were looking for quiet, so it’s nice to have options.
The Good:
Lots of decent craft beer on tap. Our personal favourites would include the Niagara College Butler’s Bitter and the Murphy’s Stout. We went through a dozen pitchers and tried just about everything on the current menu, and with few exceptions, all we enjoyed.
TAVAR....yep. Our waitress was cute, not "Hot" per-se but the one who came in later with the ripped jeans was a smoke show.
The price....a $20 night? Throwback Thursday indeed!
The Meh:
The wings...a mixed bag. First round was tasty but too dry. The suicide weren’t that spicy with a weird thai-like sauce that was too vinegary. The second round of hot were swimming in sauce that had a weird BBQ-garlic flavour that were hotter than the suicide. Kinda small, but cheap! Then there’s the fact that they ran out. WTF? You advertise a wing special, then only have 10 pounds in the fridge? Not like it was packed and everyone was ordering them.
The Service...slow. One girl serving a place that big doesn’t lead to efficiency. Took forever to get beer, extra glasses, wings and finally the bill.
Oh and the music leaned toward shitty and gay, mostly leaning toward gay by the end of the night.
Overall:
Nice to have a place in the Fallsview district that:
Doesn’t make you pay for parking.
Doesn’t charge that stupid tourism-tax that most places in the Falls try to rip you off with.
Definitely worthy of a return visit! Good call Chris!
