Overall -Aug 2015:
On a recent vacation to the Vancouver area, I had an opportunity to try out some west coast wings at a few fine establishments. One of these locations was Darby’s Public House on the southern mainland in Kitsilano. Located on West 4th Ave & MacDonald, Darby’s features an in-house liquor store, upscale sports bar and a huge wraparound rooftop patio with over 30 local craft beers on tap.
Parking was a bit of a challenge, we had to find a streetside spot on one of the residential streets in behind. The place was packed for a tuesday night, which suggests it is a popular place for the locals to hang out. Fortunately we found a spot on the patio with a great view of the city and north shore mountains beyond.
I enjoyed a few pints of Phillips Blue Buck, an English Pale Ale from Victoria BC along with a most excellent Philly Steak and Cheese. We also split a pile of appetizers and nachos for the table, and of course I had to try out some wings!
The wings were a decent size, although not huge, with a tangy hot sauce and bleu cheese dip for around $11 per pound. An average value, pretty much on-par with what you would expect from an upscale pub in Niagara.
Overall, a fun night hanging out with some new friends, and a shout out to the McCarthy Tetrault softball team for their end season comeback and their hospitality!
