Overall - Nov 2012:
While waiting around for tires at Costco early one saturday morning, Mike and Chris decided to do a quick pre-run to the new Upper Deck Taphouse on Martindale Road to see whether it was worthy of BHON visit. Below is a BHON mini-review...
The Upper Deck opened in the summer of 2012 in an area that’s noticeably devoid of eateries, bars and other similar establishments. Their big selling point was touted to be the patio overlooking the twelve mile creek valley and a view that was unrivalled by anything else in the city. While the high-top bar tables and floor to ceiling windows gave a spectacular view of the valley, the November chill had stripped most of the trees of their foliage, leaving a really great view of the backs of shopping plazas and car dealerships on Ontario Street. Not exactly a million dollar view, but hey...it’s cool nonetheless.
Atmosphere - The bar was spacious and had a classy look throughout.
Beer - well they had Guinness on tap, but at $7.50 a pint it was anything but a bargain!
Wings - decent-sized and properly cooked, but for $11 a pound, we expect something a little better than frozen, pre-cooked out of the bag Sysco stuff that you get at every chain restaurant. These were the same, run-of-the-mill breaded wings with generic, heavy on the vinegar hot sauce that you get at most franchise establishments. Nothing terrible, but nothing memorable.
Overall - nice place, great view, but pricey and nothing noteworthy to bring us back. |
