Not a bad place. Pretty much your typical chain restaurant / sports bar franchise. Follow the formula....take a vacant restaurant space, add a bar, add some tables and booths, put up a bunch of TV’s and sports paraphernalia, throw in a pool table for good measure, then add a famous hockey celebrity name to the place and ’voila’ you have Don Cherry’s Sports Grill!
Wings: Decent sized and half price on thursday nights, but they had that generic factory-made quality about them and tasted like they’d come out of a box pre-cooked then re-heated and seasoned to taste. We can’t fault them too much, since that’s standard fare for most franchise operations. Note: Fresh is good people!
With several sauce selections to choose from, we opted for some standard hot along with the Wacko habanero pepper flavoured wings that our server assured us were the hottest available. Neither were terribly spicy, at least according to our tastebuds, but the habanero sauce did have an excellent flavour, which we enjoyed a second round of.
Beer: No Guinness to be had here, just the standard domestic and import fare on tap. We stuck with the old standard Rickards Red for the evening.
Value: As mentioned previously, the half-price special on thursday night made the wings an excellent deal. In fact, the whole night turned out to be a $20 per person affair, which is very rare these days. We certainly can’t complain about that. Had we paid full price however, we likely wouldn’t have given them as high a score. |
