Overall August 2017
It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of a beloved member of the BHON family.
On Monday, August 14th - 2017 ’The Celtic Pub’ passed away quietly due to failure to pay their rent.
Although we saw a few signs of trouble leading up to their eventual demise, we didn’t realize it was the end of the road for this BHON favourite. On our last few visits they were frequently out of various menu items, beer taps were out of order, the live bands stopped showing up on thursday nights etc.
Please pause for a moment of silence while we pay our respects to the dearly departed.
Overall - December 2016:
Ok, we might have been a bit quick to drop the score based on one annoyingly loud night, welcome back to the 100 Club! After several stellar evenings at the Celtic, we have no choice but to restore membership in the highly coveted 100 Club.
Overall - March 2016:
Why the drop in score? A band that was too fucking loud!
We usually like the Celtic as a place where we can enjoy some frosty pints and excellent wings. For the most part, their live entertainment has consisted of solo singers and acoustic bands which fit in perfectly when you are trying to chat with those around you. The last time around, not so much.
Tips for local bar bands:
1. You are not Van Halen.
2. You are not playing the ACC.
It is not necessary to crank your shit up to 110 decibels when you are playing in a 900 square foot room.
Overall - March 2014:
For a long time, Bugsy’s has sat alone in the BHON 100 Club and has long been considered the ’Gold Standard’ for consistent spec wings. After careful consideration, we are proud to announce the addition of the Celtic Pub as the second member of this prestigious club, having become a proven performer in just three short years of BHON patronage.
Why are they deserving of such an honour you ask? First off, they have some of the cheapest Guinness pints in the region and have had consistently good ’textbook’ buffalo wings EVERY time we’ve been there. Top it off with a generous rewards points program that keeps sending us cash incentives to keep coming back, how can we not give them some deserving props.
It’s not the most extravagant place, nothing flashy or pretentious about it. But they haven’t disappointed us once and the consistency has been such that they’ve become a regular go-to location for us when nobody has picked a spot.
Congratulations to Celtic Pub on your promotion to the 100 Club. Keep up the good work!
Overall - September 2013:
Since our first visit in 2011, the Celtic Pub has become a regular "go to" spot for us. With easily some of the most consistent, wings (only second to the 100% club) and the fact they have some fairly priced Guiness on tap has easily put them ahead of the pack and well on the way to becoming the second 100% club member.
And as we also discovered this week they sell half pints.
Nothing like looking at the bill and realizing that we’ve put away 29.5 pints for the evening.
Also big thanks to Mr. Mike B for top cocking the night.
Overall - July 2011:
Here’s a nifty little pub that we’ve probably passed by many times over the years without a second thought. For the longest time, I think we were under the impression that it was a private club, not open to the general public. Boy were we missing out! Who woulda thunk the irish could make such damn good wings!
Nice comfortable little place inside. Not too big, not too loud or too crowded for our liking. Live music on thursday nights, but both times we’ve been there, they were acoustic artists rather than JJ and the Big Hair bands trying to compete for the title of loudest and most obnoxious!
Excellent wings, cooked just right. Cripsy on the outside with a textbook hot sauce that was bang-on the money! Also an excellent value on thursday nights. And of course, they wouldn’t be very Celtic without the requisite Guinness on tap!
Add in a splash of TAVAR and the Celtic Pub has earned itself a prestige spot in the BHON line-up! |
