Overall - Apr 2011:
Whenever a new bar opens up in our area, it’s certainly cause for investigation by BHON. Of course if the establishment claims to specialize in wings, all the better! Wild Wing is a chain of restaurants sporting a selection of 101 different wing flavours on the menu, and they recently opened a new franchise in St. Catharines. So how would they fare in comparison to some of our favourites? We’ll soon find out.....
Atmosphere - nothing special.... A big, loud and boxy place that felt like a gymnasium with tables. No points to be gained here.
Beer - nothing special either...the usual domestics on tap with Rickards Red being the only dark beer worth mentioning.
Wings - we tried 4 different flavours from the incredibly confusing menu, many of which sounded disgusting. They served up some average sized breaded wings with a generic, chain-restaurant quality to them. Decent, but nothing spectacular.
Farmer’s Daughter - a sweet, saucy, BBQ/Jerk style wing with a little bite. Different, but not my favourite. Spaghetti Western - Whadda Boudda de Tomat? Tasted like meatballs, with a parmesean/italian seasoning. Extra Hot - Well not really....more like a medium in our books. She’s a Hottie - Now we’re talking! Holy Hell....an afterburn that lasted for 5 minutes! Coulda gone for more of these!
Overall, it’s a typical chain restaurant. Adequate but nothing special. At almost a buck a wing, and $16 for a pitcher of domestic draught, certainly no bargain either. Meh.....colour me unimpressed. |
