Overall - Aug 2001:
Beer, Wings and and a cool bar, what else could you ask for? Maybe keep all the patrons from hollering the whole time. There was a Metallica concert next door, Lars called and said "Keep it down!" I guess it’s exciting to get away from the farm for a night.
Wings: A unique "3 Alarm Buffalo Wing Sauce", only other choice was some foreign sounding slop. They were hot, but with a short fused afterburn, more spicy than just hot, decent sized, SAF a little low. These are to be eaten hot, they lose their luster when cooled off. Leave ’em in a rental car for 12 hours @ 95 degrees, well eh, don’t go there. Too bad, because they don’t pack the take homesies in Styrofoam, the Dane packs their wings proudly in museum quality clear plastic! Like a Chicken Wing Corsage for Prom night!
Beer: A large Microbrewery right on the premises, a good dozen brews on tap, I sampled the smooth "Crop Circle Wheat". It didn’t even taste like it had been stomped on! These guys don’t even bother with the bottled beers, they only carry 1 brand, and have only sold 6 in the last 8 years!
This is my favourite spot in Wisconsin (only)! So, If you ever find yourself in Madison WI (likely lost) and in need of Beer (what else is there), the Great Dane (no dogs allowed) is going to be a highlight! (in dairy country)
