RIP - Spring 2013:
Apparently the Queen’s Guard closed its doors after a management change at the attached motel complex in late 2012 or early 2013. Sad to see it go. It was a popular little neighbourhood pub and was always busy when we were there. I guess the new owners weren’t interested in continuing to operate it.
Overall - July 2007:
Wow - a quaint little British pub, right up the street from the old Taste of the Caribbean. Never even knew it was there although we’ve probably driven by a million times.
As a typical English style pub, it goes without saying there was plenty of Guinness and other quality imports on tap. Fantastic wings, available in a variety of different flavours. We tried 5 levels of hot ranging from standard Buffalo style, to a rather unique extra hot with a hint of cajun spice. Unlike most cajun wings which tend to be on the dry side for our tastes, these were enjoyably saucy with a perfect bite and afterburn. The cajun flavour was a nice addition to what would normally be a textbook hot Buffalo wing. Kudos to the cook for coming out and seeing how we liked them.
We will definately put the Queen’s Guard on our list worthy of a revist the next time we are in Chippawa and see if they can make the coveted 90 percentile with consistency! |
