Overall - June 2005:
Well we figured we’d throw Patrick a bone and go back to Fonthill for the second time this year, this time heading to the All Star Tap and Grill on Highway 20. This would also be our first patio night of the 2005 season!!
So what did Allstars have to offer? Well...Tetley’s on tap along with the usuals and how about a dozen or more different kinds of wings on the menu? Lets check some of these out....
ROUND ONE:
PARK AVENUE - Hot BBQ with a spicy mustard sauce. Not bad...a rather unique flavour but a little too sweet for my tastes. Most of the guys really liked them though...
CAJUN - Dry dusted with cajun spices. Better than most wed had recently...not too dry or too salty for cajun style wings.
PLAIN OLD FUCKING HOT - As Mike G called them...(also available in Meduim and Mild). Traditional style wings which were just about perfect, and probably the hottest of the first round.
INTERMISSION: (more beer)
ROUND TWO:
TEXAS CREOLE - Spicy BBQ with a Peppercorn Sauce. Nice spice with a little kick. A little too heavy on the BBQ sauce though. Good, but the flavour is more suited for a roasted chicken dinner than for wings.
BUFFALO BUTTERY HOT - Traditional Frank’s Hot sauce and butter. Bang on the money! Saucy and hot! Just like we like em!
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT - Supposedly the 2nd hottest wing on the menu. Okay - but certainly not that hot. The regular hot from round one beat these hands-down.
There was one more wing selection on the menu that caught our eye...Hell’s Kitchen! These were supposed to be the hottest on the menu, so obviously we had to take them up on the challenge.
HELLS KITCHEN - I guess weve become desensitized to hotness over the years as these were certainly nothing to write home about. They did have a pretty good afterburn though. More like stealth wings! They will bite you after youve eaten them....Really bite you....Whoooo! Okay I take that back...Nice!
Overall a really decent place with an amazing selection of wings and good beer on tap. The only downside....It was a FIFTY BUCK PER PERSON night, and that is something that left us scrambling at the end of the night, and sent some for a recon mission to the ATM machine! Not good....and this kept them out of the coveted 90 percentile that they would have easily earned!
